This week was all about getting hands-on experience with Property Management. I started off my week going to a property that needed a 100% unit inspection along with a file audit to ensure that the lease information was correct with all of the right information. This got me accustomed to our operations system, Yardi, and challenged me on where to find the information. Later in the week, I got to work alongside a Corporate Leasing Specialist, Grace. She showed me how to properly give tours, ensuring that all fair housing laws are being abided by, as well as the process of generating leases and editing them to show the correct information. This was a crucial step for learning operations within leasing, and I can not wait to do a tour on my own and show everyone what I have learned! I finished out the week by going to an apartment complex that had an eviction due to an overdue balance. I was able to work with law enforcement to enter the complex and inform the resident that they were no longer able to live in the unit. This was a challenging idea to comprehend, as I did not want to remove someone from their home. However, the resident was not in the unit, so Law Enforcement and I posted a notice on the door and changed the locks, also deactivating the evicted resident’s key access to the building.
