This is the third week into my internship and I have been able to give tours to prospects and new residents. I have been able to get three leases since I have started giving tours. I have also been learning about the lease renewal, move-in and move-out processes. Something fun that our property did was participate in national chalk day!

This week I was fortunate enough to have my very first closing on cabin that I got to show to a client of mine a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting to see how the procedure works. Everything ran quickly and smoothly, and am hoping that all future closing go as well as this one did. The rest of my week was spent setting up much of my marketing material!

I interviewed one of the senior appraisers this week to ask about his career. I got to know that he had to take 3 levels of examination in order to get the title of senior accredited Minnesota appraiser (SAMA). There is a ton of workload to do working for government department as it conducts mass assessing service. After the interview, I think I should figure out which area I am interested in, and start deciding whether to work in private sector, appraising residential or commercial properties.

Senior appraisers brought the interns out for residential properties inspection at Rosemount and assist with the reassessment on the value of the residential properties we visited as well as getting the measurements of new construction homes. The interns were taking notes of the add-ons to the houses and put those into the county’s database. It is also important for us to learn drawing sketches with angle and curve as we need to ensure the square footage matches the physical building. Most of us did a couple mistakes but it does not stop us from doing better at it.

I am glad to have a chance to sit with different accredited appraisers from both residential and commercial assessing department, helping out with their duty. I get to have a brief idea of what they do on a daily basis. The licensed appraisers were knowledgeable and clearly understand what they were doing. It was fun to talk and learn from them.

I recently started my property management internship with Dominium at their amazing A-Mill Artist Loft property in Minneapolis. During my first week, I was given a full tour of the massive historic property. They have many unique spaces that they offer to their residents, and they showed me all the key features of this property including the rooftop lounge (where this picture was taken). Looking forward to learning a lot through this internship opportunity.

The second week was an exciting one as I received my first lead and client. Someone in my sphere contacted me and had interest in a cabin on a small resort in Wisconsin. With the help of my Team, we set up a showing to see the listing with the client.

After seeing the cabin, the buyer decided to put an offer in on the property and it was accepted by the seller. It was great to see how all of the legal paperwork is completed and how communication is done between the parties.

My first week in Real Estate consisted of submitting my exam results, fees, and education proof to become a licensed Real Estate Agent in Wisconsin. After this process was over, Coldwell Banker – Burnet hired me as a Sales Agent. My next step was to get signed up for the Board of Realtors, and sign up for course work that will allow me to receive my MN license.

Coldwell helped set me up with my marketing, site, and email logins. The rest of my week was spent gathering contacts for my “sphere.”

This past Friday I was able to work my first community event at The Residence at the COR. It was carnival themed and we had a duck pond game, a bottle ring game, music, food, musical chairs, bags, giant jenga and a dunk tank. The residents loved getting to dunk all of the staff members and us staff enjoyed getting to take turns dunking each other. Overall, it was a great event and I look forward to the next one!

For the first 10 days of my internship, I am able to learn the basic of this industry. The interns were taught to use different software such as globespotter, pictometry, GIS map to conduct reassessment on townhouses and single family homes. I have to double check the characteristic of the real estates to see if our data matches the reality. Besides that, I also need to see if there was any factors that affects the value of the property and discuss it with one of the senior appraisal to find out if I need to add any value to the particular factor. And look, I found a heart shape lake from the bird-eye view located at Eagan!

My main duty is to helping out with the assessment process by inspecting residential real estates and verify it’s characteristics. The first week of my internship was excited. It is fun to met some new friends in a new environment. Can’t wait to work with them next week.

My first day started on June 3rd at the regional office in Minnetonka, Minnesota and I officially started at the site on the following day. Ever since, I have been kept very busy and have been learning all things about the property. My team has helped me every step of the way and I get to start giving tours next week! Excited to learn all I can this summer and see the textbooks come to life.

This was probably one of my most favorite days. The MIT and I went to other apartments (competitors) and we shopped them. We pretended to be cousins and I was going to school at Bethel University and he worked downtown in the cities. It was really cool getting to see what other apartment homes look like and how the other leasing consultants react and how they treat you. It was a pretty big eye opener for me.

7west Apartment Homes is not your typical property! With just Jessy and I running the office, we get serious work completed and do a four-person job. Today alone the two of us managed to lease out 22 apartments, give 4 tours, and help with 3 move-ins. In all honesty, the 22 leases were lead by our CD and regional director. Thank you Danielle and Tony!

This means 7west has very little vacancy, but we will certainly have a wonderful time in August, when all 22 short-term leases end. Sadly, my internship may end before the chaos. Jessy and I stayed late tonight, but we managed to order some pizza and have a good time while delivering 2 day’s worth of packages! I am definitely working at my fullest potential this Summer.

I am currently assigned to Mears Park Place Apartments in heart of downtown St. Paul. Mears Park sits adjacent to the apartments and often hosts musicians. When I took lunch at the beautiful park, there was a band playing in the park, so I relaxed and enjoyed the live music.

Today, we started the day off early because we had a meeting at 7 West with some other employees in the Minneapolis area talking about “opening up shop” as Weidner calls it. We just went over how the first hour of the day is supposed to be used to walk the property and make sure everything looks clean for prospects that come throughout the day. Then I will be staying late tonight since we will be doing another resident event here at Vue. We are having a musician come in and play and we will have wine, beer, and appetizers for our residents. These events are pretty fun and mostly just socializing so it’s nice to get the extra hours of work in.
