This week was my last week at my internship at The Residence At The COR. I have learned more than I ever thought I would during this experience and it was hard leaving the amazing staff and residents there. I hope that I can do another internship in the future!

The office made us a treat table on our last week of internship as a small parting gift. Most of the appraisers chip in and bought various snacks such as cracker &salsa, artichoke and spinach dip, cheese and meat plate, nachos, fruits, rice krispie bars, donuts and more. Other than that, we also went out to Me & Julio, a restaurant in Hastings for lunch on our last day. The interns decided to write a thank you card back in favor. It was a wonderful summer with them, I am definitely going to miss the workplace and the coworkers. I have learnt a lot about myself and what I want to pursue during my time here.

Since I started my internship at the Residence at The COR, we have been awaiting new tiling for the front lobby. A couple months later it is finally finished! After it was finished, we got started on the furnishing and decor, as we were happy for it to finally be done and for residents to have easier access to the amenities.

This week I had my very first listing appointment. Someone was referred to me from another person in my sphere. They’re looking to potentially sell their home and they want to find the right realtor for the job. So this appointment was essentially an interview and a great chance for me to see the property. The next time I meet with them, I’ll be presenting all that my services offer and a potential price opinion on her property. I hope I get to list their home!

This week ( Week 7) I focused on growing my contacts, and relationships with those in my life. They call this your “sphere of influence” and these are people from my life that I can reach out to and help them find a home or sell a home. These people are also great advocates for your business. Word of mouth helps people get referred to you. Not only is there a benefit to my business, but you can create a network for referrals with the people who work in other career fields. Its a system of friends helping friends and its a great experience to be apart of. By constantly growing relationships, connecting, and communicating with others, I’ve been able to improve my social life by reconnecting with others but also create a business network with those around me.

This week I was given the task of setting up the mini model apartment home. I found this to be very fun because I also have an interest in interior design. When an apartment home is vacant and ready, we will set up decor in it, as it makes the apartment feel more inviting and like a home. It is shown that when an apartment has some decor or furniture in it, it is more likely to be rented. We were able to lease this apartment home quickly and it was great to have another floor plan available for prospects to come and check out.

After shadowing a few move-in orientations, I was able to do my first one this week. This resident is someone who I first toured and helped throughout the application and lease process all the way to the date of their move-in, which I found exciting. I have enjoyed doing the move-in inspections, move-in gifts, and welcoming the resident to the apartment community. I have done two more move-in orientations since and I look forward to more in the next couple of weeks!

This past week I had the opportunity to give a tour to my fellow Dominium interns at my property. A-Mill artist lofts is a very historic building located in Minneapolis and has many unique features to it. One being the hydro-generator under the building which supplies a lot of energy to the building. Also, there are many reservable spaces such as art studios, recording spaces, a dance studio, and many other spaces artist can freely express their artistic abilities. We do not give many tours due to the building being 100% occupied and it being a private residence. Overall it was great being able to show my building to others that are in the same boat as me managing for Dominium.

I just got the privilege of starting a new 4 week program called AMP! This program is designed to help real estate agents grow, become organized, and fully understand all of the technology, tools, and marketing techniques and skills that it takes to become a successful agent. The first day we created financial and personal goals, followed by the very first steps that need to be in place to start working on them. I’m excited to see where this course takes me and how it develops my skills in sales!

The Winnipeg floor plan is our most unique floor plan and two of these apartment homes became available last week. It was a plus to have one of these was ready for move in and available for prospects to come and tour if they were looking for a two-bedroom home. The high ceilings and long hallway are what make it different from the rest. It was fun to get to learn more about this floor plan and the two were leased very quickly!

My friend who works for Dominium property management group took me on a tour at one of their signature property. It is the A Mill Artist Lofts, a historic restore building in Minneapolis by the Stone Arch Bridge. It is fascinating to see such a property as they turned a flour mill into apartments while remain most of the unique structure, giving a new life to this 1900s building. A Mill is also eco-friendly as the water wheels from the previous flour mill generates electricity providing a clean. renewable energy source for up to 70% of the apartments needs. Super cool property and it is even cooler if you learn about its history.

This week my license from the state of Minnesota was finalized and I am now a licensed realtor in both states! This was crucial for me as my office is located near the St. Croix River. Often times, agents work with buyers and sellers in both states. Knowing the laws that differentiate between the two is also very important. I plan to advertise myself with this achievement and hope that it separates me from the realtors in this area who are not licensed in both states, making my business more attractive to clients.

The office was a little slow at times this week, so I was able to do touch-up painting around the hallways and stairwells of the property. Often times this job requires you to dress down and help keep the property in tip top shape. I even had a resident thank me for this, as the marks in the hall from move-ins had bothered them. I’ve realized that it’s the small things that residents notice and appreciate. It was also fun to get out of the office and walk around the property!

I have built a handful of the business relationship and even personal relationship during this internship. One of my colleagues is a friend of the regional manager of Lincoln Property Management. She introduced me to them and we spent a wonderful evening together giving me career choice advice. It is eye-opening to shadow a regional manager for half a day at 4Marq Apartments, downtown Minneapolis. Her responsibilities is so much more than I thought it would be, she has to take care of the properties she in charge of, the staffs that working under her supervision, as well as the superordinate. I found that it is always thought-provoking after talking to someone with experience in the field that I am interested in.

The employees that work for Dakota County are eligible for a wellness incentive in 2020. Even though the interns are not eligible for the rewards, we are still invited to join the fitness challenge. We have to keep track of the mileage from jogging, running biking and walking. The eligible participants would get a ten percent reward of the total distance of sports they do within June 11 to 25. On the last weekend, some of the senior appraisal decided to run with us at Bde maka Ska, St Louis Park, here is an awesome view of the lake by the trail. It feels great to be sport active.

The model at the apartment community is something that every prospect sees when they take a tour at the property which is why it needs to be kept clean, inviting and smelling good. We open the model first thing in the morning and close it after our showing hours are over. After our work is done in the office on Saturdays, we head over to model and do some cleaning, and my favorite part, carpet raking. This ensures that prospects can get the best idea of what our community is like and what their future apartment could look like.
