Wrapping up my last week with industrial property management was eventful. While continuing to rotate between the portfolios of three teams, I went on multiple property tours and inspections, I went to a couple lunches with vendors and a lunch with the JLL Industrial Agency business line, and I reviewed many processes through an industrial management point of view including- accounts payable, RFPs (request for proposal), and budgets using Excel instead of Yardi. While spending time with these teams, they imparted some important knowledge they have learned over the years to help prepare me to one day be a great manager.
On Friday, I got the chance to do a mock trial emergency response exercise. The manager had shown me and a PA some pictures of a broken sprinkler head, and then we went to the fire pump room at the property to run through the proper protocol for dealing with this emergency and the effects of it after. This was a great opportunity to test my knowledge of emergency response protocol and prepare me for emergencies I may experience in the future.
I just have two more weeks left of my internship with JLL. Time has been flying! Coming up, I have a weeklong rotation with a suburban office portfolio and a 2.5-day rotation at a downtown property that recently underwent a major renovation to learn more about construction management. After that, I will be wrapping up with a final presentation that I will be giving to all the teams that I got the chance to work with. I have been learning an astronomical amount during this internship and continue to learn more over the next two weeks!
