As of today I officially have 14 days left of my internship with Weidner apartments. I’ve learned so much over these past 6 weeks and I know that I’ll use every ounce of knowledge I’ve gained again and again over the course of my career in property management.
Earlier this week weidner held a Manager In Training informational session for all interns in the Milwaukee area. Funnily enough, I am the only intern in the Milwaukee area, so the meeting was more than anything an informational session for me. It was exciting to learn about the MIT program first hand from current MIT students as well as MIT Mentors.
The MIT program is a 12 month program that has you splitting up your time between two, possibly more, properties for 6 months each. During these twelve months you do a number of things from working with maintenance for a week, to working as the active community director for a month with little assistance. The goal of the program is to help MIT students to learn as much as possible in a controlled environment. After you graduate the MIT program you are ready to go off any apply for any careers that weidner has available. Most go directly into community director positions but some go back to being leasing consultants until a position arises for them.
With how much I’ve learned over my internship, and how much fun I’ve had, I know that I would be honored to be invited back to Weidner Apartment Homes after I complete my senior year. One of my colleagues once told me that the amount of experience you gain at weidner in one year is equal to three years with another company, and that really stuck with me.
